A
tough run of grid draws during her heat races certainly
made the going tough for current Victorian State Title
holder ‘Miss’ Jessica Moulden during the running of
the Australian Formula 500 Title last weekend at Lismore
Speedway, but as the saying goes, when the going gets
tough, the tough get going.
In
what was her very first visit to the Northern NSW track,
Moulden struggled during her three heat races, finishing
in sixth, seventh, and third respectively, and as a
result she was forced to take part in the repechage
in order to qualify for the feature race. Moulden won
the repechage # 1 with comfortable ease and therefore
started the feature race from deep in the field, position
17.
With
it all to gain and nothing to lose, Moulden was able
to avoid numerous incidents throughout the feature race,
one being a very close call when she collected a spinning
Ben Devlin and was lucky not to cut a tyre, picking
cars off one by one in a hard charging display to work
her way up to a very gallant and hard fought sixth place
at the fall of the chequered flag.
“We
didn’t get the best of grids draws and with the track
on night one being very fast there was little passing
going on, but we managed to stage a good fight back
and end up with sixth place,” Moulden expressed.
“Heading
into the weekend I was aiming for a Top 5 result, and
heading into the feature race I set my aims at the Top
10 as we were starting so far back, so to finish just
outside the Top 5 is a great result.”

Moulden
said that over the two nights at Lismore Speedway the
track was completely different racing surfaces, which
she believes contributed to her missing out on a direct
transfer into the feature race.
“On
the opening night it was pretty much follow the leader
and basically where you started was where you finished,”
said Moulden.
“The
track on the second night was more of a drivers track,
and that suited me and saw me able to progress forward,
and that was evident with my end result.”
This
Saturday night (March 29) at Laang Speedway in Victoria
Moulden will contest the Non Winged Nationals, and this
is also the first time she has competed in a non winged
event and the first time she has returned to the Laang
Speedway since capturing her historic Victorian State
Title victory.
“I’m
very much looking forward to taking part in the non
winged event, as it’s something new and exciting, and
it’s always good to try new things,” she added.
Moulden
would like to say a special thanks to Truline in Cobden

her to compete in the Australian Title.
