One
driver that certainly opened up a few eyes throughout
the latter half of the Oval Express Formula 500 Series
was Jessica Moulden and she did so by capturing three
consecutive Top 10 feature race finishers at two of
Australia’s most daunting tracks, Warrnambool’s Premier
Speedway in Victoria and Sydney’s Tyrepower Parramatta
City Raceway (TPCR) in New South Wales.
A
10th place finish in the feature race at Premier Speedway
for the fourth round of the Oval Express Series was
her first Top 10 finish of the series and she then backed
it up by recording a pair of sixth place finishes on
both nights in the TPCR feature races at rounds five
and six (final).
These
results gave Moulden a sixth place finish overall in
the Oval Express Series final point standings, and also
did her no harm towards earning the reputation as one
of the rising female prospects in Australian Speedway.
The
sixth placing overall could have been higher had it
not been for a slow start to the Oval Express Series
where she failed to qualify for the feature race during
the opening round at Blue Ribbon Raceway in Horsham.
For the remaining five rounds of the Oval Express Series,
Moulden managed to qualify for the feature race; two
of those qualifications were as a result of her taking
out victories in the B-main. Moulden only started in
the B-main at Laang Speedway and TPCR as a result of
suffering misfortune in her qualifying heat races.
“To
finish the Oval Express Series with such strong results
and to finish sixth overall is just simply fantastic,
and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my
team, who worked tirelessly throughout the series to
get me where I am,” expressed a very happy Moulden.
“I
struggled in the opening round and I missed the feature
race, and from there on I just put my head down and
raced as hard as I could, and in the end I achieved
some very pleasing results.”
Without
a doubt her highlight performance in the Oval Express
Series was none other than the sixth and final round
at TPCR, when she won the B-main and looked on track
for a podium result in the final, but it wasn’t to be.
After failing to finish her opening heat race due to
main wing and tail tank damage, Moulden started in the
B-main and she won the event in strong fashion. Then
from deep in the feature race field, Moulden charged
her way towards the front of the field and was attempting
to move into fourth place only for a late caution period
to ruin her march and she fell back to finish in sixth.

“That
stoppage in the final stages of the feature race upset
my momentum and cost me, but that’s the way things go
and I certainly had a lot of fun racing at one of the
best tracks in Australia.” the 20-year-old said.
“The
car was perfect during the feature race and I was able
to drive it [the car] anywhere I wanted, and that certainly
helped when I was cutting my way through the field.”
Moulden,
who is loaded with confidence from her Oval Express
Series performance, now turns her attention to the second
round of the Victorian Stampede Series that is to be
held this Saturday night (January 12) at Avalon Raceway
in Geelong. After winning the opening round at Simpson
Speedway late last year, Moulden goes into the second
round as the series leader and one of the favourites
to take out the round.
Moulden
is supported in the 2007/08 season by: Race Shirts 4
U, McDonald Excavations, SWIFT Racing Products, Mt.
Noorat Freighters, Jettco Developments, Design Effects
Signage and Warrnambool Powder Coating. Moulden would
also like to especially thank: Jeff, David, Mum, Dylan,
and everyone else that helped out whilst they were on
the road during the Oval Express Series.
