There
was no better way Jessica Moulden could have imagined
celebrating her 20th birthday, when she claim her very
first feature race victory in the Formula 500 ranks
during the opening round of the Victorian Stampede Series
on Saturday night at Simpson Speedway.
Having
been there and done it before in Junior Sedans, Moulden
was naturally thrilled with her very first feature race
victory, especially considering it was her 20th birthday,
in what is only her second season in Formula 500s.
“I
had set the aim for this season to win a feature race,
but to do it so early in the season has came as quite
a pleasant surprise,” expressed a jubilant Moulden.
“The
car was great all night, except for a small fuel pump
issue, which was fixed thanks to Shane Van Duynhoven
for lending one to me for the feature race. I ended
up the highest point scorer going into the feature race
and started from pole position and managed to stay out
in front until the end.”
Moulden
was making only her third appearance in her newly built
SWIFT car and made her first appearance with a new Yamaha
R6 engine prepared by Stephen Bell from Jettco Developments.
“We
used a borrowed engine at the Jack Willsher Cup a fortnight
ago, so it was good to come out with my new engine and
take the win first night out,” she remarked.

“Full
credit must go to both Belly [Stephen Bell] and Molly
[Darren Mollenoyux] for giving me such a competitive
package, and I’m hoping to achieve similar results as
the season progresses.”
After
recording a third, fourth and first (from the rear of
the grid in all three) during her heat races, Moulden
was the highest point scorer, and she then went on to
taking a convincing feature race victory by leading
the entire 15-lap distance.
It
was a historic night for Moulden as she not only became
the first female driver in Victoria to win a Formula
500 feature race, but she also scored SWIFT chassis
constructor Darren Mollenoyux his first Victorian Stampede
Series feature race victory.
Moulden
carries winning form into the upcoming Oval Express
Series, which is set to kick off on Thursday Night,
December 27 at Blue Ribbon Speedway in Horsham Victoria.
“I
couldn’t have hoped for better form heading into the
Oval Express Series, but I’m well aware that it’s going
to be a different ball game and I will need to step
up to another level,” Moulden commented.
“With
that said, I know that the car and engine package is
capable of running up front and if I can be amongst
the top five or ten then I’ll be very happy.”
Moulden
is supported in the 2007/08 season by: Race Shirts 4
