A huge
month of March has come to an end for Jessica Moulden.
Victoria’s leading female Formula 500 pilot has endured
an up and down time, with strong results mixed together
with some major disappointment.
It began
back on the Labour Day long weekend as Bordertown’s
Tolmer Speedway hosted the Australian Title. Moulden
qualified in 11th position for the final before an excellent
drive catapulted her to an outstanding fifth place finish,
a superb result considering how the weekend began. “The
weekend wasn’t looking so good, we underwent two engine
changes before practice.” “In the final we just went
one lap at a time, tried to pass as many cars as I could
and a bit of luck went my way which was fortunate,”
Moulden said.
The following
weekend Laang International Speedway hosted the Flamecrusher
Dual Crown. In Friday night’s winged 50-lap event, Moulden
paced the field during the opening stages only to have
the Jacobs ladder collapse, forcing chain issues and
ending her chances of victory. “We got off to a good
start but it just wasn’t to be, all credit to Jack Lee
who got the job done in the end.”
A fortnight
ago, Moulden headed to Sungold Stadium in Warrnambool
to defend her Victorian Championship. Although unable
to keep the coveted number one, Moulden put in a strong
performance to finish third behind newly crowed Australian
champion Brock Hallett and the inform Liam Williams.
“I was stoked with third, it was definitely better than
I expected. “The track was great to race on all night
and finally I managed a podium finish at Warrnambool,”
said a content Moulden.
A trip
to Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway last Saturday
night chasing the South Australian Championship proved
to be testing time for all involved in the Moulden camp.
Jessica went upside down during an early heat race,
before a second lap incident in the B-Main saw her collect
a rolling car resulting in major front end damage, bringing
an end to the night. “I’d like to thank everyone who
helped get me back out on the track after the first
crash and it was unfortunate to finish the way we did,
but that’s the nature of speedway racing.”
Extensive
repairs and a rebuild of the spare parts innovatory
will be required before Moulden hits the track over
Easter, firstly at Bairnsdale Speedway on the Saturday
before heading to Rosedale Speedway on Easter Sunday
for rounds eight and nine of the RTS Chassis and Components
Stampede Series. Moulden currently sits second in the
series, just 14.5 points behind leader Matt Turner.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back into the
series and hopefully get a few more points which will
keep me towards the front of the overall standings,”
said Moulden.
